What makes a good soccer jersey design?
Two main colors and one accent, a pattern that reads from across the field, and a clear area for the crest, sponsor and number. Busy patterns behind the number make it hard for referees to read.
Classic patterns
- ✓Vertical stripes: timeless, and they make a team look taller.
- ✓Hoops: horizontal bands, bold and traditional.
- ✓Diagonal sash: one band from shoulder to hip.
- ✓Halves or quarters: two colors split down the middle or in quarters.
- ✓Solid with trim: a single color with contrast collar and cuffs, the cleanest look.
Modern patterns
- ✓Gradients fading from one color into another
- ✓Tonal patterns: a subtle texture in a slightly darker shade of the base color
- ✓Chevrons and geometric shapes across the chest
- ✓City or club motifs: a skyline, a map or a symbol worked into the pattern
Sublimation prints all of these at no extra cost, because every color is part of one print.
Color combinations that work
| Combination | Feel |
|---|---|
| Navy and gold | Classic, premium |
| Red and white | Bold, traditional |
| Black and lime | Modern, high contrast |
| Royal blue and white | Clean, bright |
| Green and black | Strong, earthy |
| Purple and orange | Stands out |
Home, away and goalkeeper
Keep the same layout for home and away, and swap the colors: the away kit is often white or a light color. The goalkeeper needs a color that clashes with both teams, such as lime, orange or pink.
