Jersey fabrics explained: which knit to choose

What GSM means, how knits differ, and which of our ten fabrics suits your sport and climate.

Short answer: for most teams, a 160 GSM polyester knit is right. Pick Classic (included) for everyday uniforms, Jacquard (+$7) for a woven texture, and Signature (+$14) for anti-microbial, UPF 50+ fabric for long days outdoors.

What fabric are sports jerseys made of?

Almost all team jerseys are polyester knits. Polyester wicks sweat, dries fast, keeps its shape and is the only fiber that sublimation dyes bond with, which is why every Xipid jersey is polyester.

What GSM means

GSM is grams per square meter, the weight of the fabric. 140 GSM is very light, 160 GSM is a standard match weight, and 190 GSM feels denser and more substantial. Lighter breathes more; heavier is more opaque and durable.
