Why football kits are polyester
Polyester wicks sweat away from the skin and dries fast, it keeps its shape after washing, and it is the only fabric that takes sublimation, where the design is dyed into the fibre. Cotton holds sweat and gets heavy in the rain, which is why it is rarely used for match kit.
What GSM means
GSM is grams per square metre: the higher the number, the heavier and denser the fabric. Around 140 to 160 GSM is light and airy for matches; 190 GSM feels fuller and more premium, like a pro shirt.
